My Writing Career I write historical novels in my own name, Deborah Carr. My First World War historical romance, Broken Faces was runner-up in the 2012 Good Housekeeping Novel Writing Competition and received a ‘special commendation’ in the Harry Bowling Prize. In 2017, Charlotte Ledger, Executive Director for HarperCollins’ One More Chapter division read Broken Faces, loved it and commissioned my USA TODAY best-selling novel, The Poppy Field to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.
All my historical novels have a connection to Jersey in the Channel Islands where I live. The Channel Islands was the only place in the British Isles occupied by Nazi forces and my second book set during the Occupation, Neighbours at War will be published by HarperColllins in May 2024 and is available for pre-order. An Island At War was a USA Today Bestseller was my first book set during those dark days in the island’s history the Nazis invaded the island on 1 July 1940 until liberation on 9th May 1945.
The Poppy Sisters was an Amazon First Reads Editor’s Pick in 2023, a highlight of my writing career.
The Beekeeper’s War spanning two generations and two wars, was published in July 2022 and set in Dorset and Jersey.
My Mrs Boots series is inspired by Jersey woman Florence Boot, the woman behind the Boots empire. Mrs Boots (Book 1), Mrs Boots of Pelham Street (Book 2), and Mrs Boots Goes To War (Book 3).
I also write contemporary romance series as Georgina Troy. My first book in this genre, A Jersey Kiss, (now republished as New Beginnings by the Sunflower Cliffs) was a Finalist in the Joan Hessayon Award for New Writers and Romance Novel of the Year Awards (RoNAs).
I signed a multiple book deal with Indie Publisher of the Year 2023, Boldwood Books in 2022. The three books in my new Sunshine Island series, Finding Love on Sunshine Island, A Secret Escape to the Sunshine Island and Chasing Dreams on Sunshine Island are out now and the first book in a brand new series, Welcome to Hollyhock Farm is out in April 2024.
My Boardwalk series has now been republished by Boldwood Books as the Golden Sands Bay series. Summer Sundaes at Golden Sands Bay, Love Begins, Winter Whimsy, Sunny Days and Snow Angels on Golden Sands Bay (the latest brand-new book) are all out now.
I have two psychological mysteries published by Hera Books as Ella Drummond. My Last Lie and The Darkest Summer are out now in e-book and audiobook and hope to write more in the next year or two.
Where do I live? I was born and have lived most of my life on the island of Jersey where I live a few minutes from the beach with three adorable but noisy dogs.
