2020 Writing Events – Part 1

This is not only a new year, but a new decade for us all. When the world seems like such a frightening place with all the dreadful news, it’s a joy to be able to lose yourself in a book, either by reading one, or writing it.

I feel enormously lucky that the last decade ended on a high for me and I’m working hard to ensure as much as I can, that it continues for as long as possible. This year I have a lot to look forward to with regard to my books. This is Part 1 of my book events in 2020. I’ll post Part 2 when I’m able to share the news.

7 January 2020 – Een Veld Vol Klaprozen, the Dutch translation of The Poppy Field, was published. I’ve always seen other authors celebrating translations of their books and it was something that I dreamt of happening, never actually imagining my dream would come true. Now it has, thanks to HarperCollins Holland.

23 January 2020 – The Poppy Field came out as an audiobook with Audible. My thriller, My Last Lie, written as Ella Drummond, came out in audiobook last year and it was fascinating to hear my words being narrated. The narrator is extremely important. I’ve bought audiobooks that I’ve longed to hear from extremely well-known authors, but have been unable to listen to anything other than the narrator’s voice rather than hearing the story, when it doesn’t work. I have a different narrator for The Poppy Field than I had for My Last Lie, but both sound great – such a relief.

27 March 2020 – The first book in my first series for HarperCollins‘ will be published in e-book. The e-book version will be followed as a paperback on 11 June 2020. Mrs Boots (Mrs Books, Book 1) is the story of how Florence Rowe, a Jersey woman (like me) met and came to marry her husband Jesse Boot, the man behind the Boots Empire. Florence was a huge supporter of woman and of her beloved husband. She worked next to Jesse for long hours each day even when her children were tiny. It was thanks to many of her innovative ideas that helped take the Boots brand from a well-known chemist to the department store that we know today. The first book is the introduction to their love story and covers a year in their lives from 1885 to 1886. It will be followed by Book 2 two months later.

8 April 2020 – Cover Reveal – Mrs Boots of Pelham Street (Mrs Boots, Book 2).

15 May 2020 – Publication day for Mrs Boots of Pelham Street (Mrs Boots, Book 2). The paperback version of the book will be published on 23 July. This second book in the series shows Florence and Jesse’s lives during and after the first years of their married life, the births of their children, and their struggles to achieve their dreams for their business. The story begins in 1891 through to 1907.

So, that’s Part 1 of my bookish news for 2020, I hope you like it. I’ll have more bookish news for my Deborah Carr historical novels and also some for one of my thrillers written as Ella Drummond.
